As we turn our eyes to the advent of St. Patrick’s’ Day, Irish cuisine is on the horizon. On a recent trip to Melbourne we spotted Meg O’Malley’s Restaurant & Irish Pub – it may well have been the highlight of our downtown experience.
The place is packed with atmosphere
This was a great find! It is hard to tell from the exterior, but there are several dining areas inside, a large bar (of course) and a wonderfully engaging outdoor patio for dining.
There also was a large, well stocked bar for those who wished to try some of the nearly two dozen beer options or just share a bit of the blarney with their mates.
In the back was an airy patio area that was just right for parties and get togethers of all descriptions from birthdays and anniversaries to family reunions.
The atmosphere’s just the start
When it came to dining, the options were endless. There were Potato Balls, Cabbage Wraps, Corned Beef Sliders, Sausage Rolls, Humus and a Cheese & Ale Crock among the dozens of choices.
For lunch, I had the Kilkenny Sandwich while Mrs Funmeister opted for the Veggie Pot Pie. My Kilkenny was thinly sliced, hot and juicy corned beef as advertised. Her Pot Pie had a flaky, easily removable top with plenty of stuffings and served with buttered cabbage and brown bread.
We were so stuffed that we did not have room for dessert. However, we did have room to take home a number of their special scones, which served as a sweet treat at breakfast the next morning.
Sadly, as lunch customers we did not have an opportunity to enjoy any of the entertainment they have there nightly. We vowed next tim to wait until dinner to have the entire Meg O’Malley’s experience.
We would be remiss if we did not mention our waitress, the lovely Tamera, who guided us through our initial foray. This is a great place and well equipped to deal with any kind of event or dining group you have. It is a “must stop” in Melbourne.
